THE OUTAGEWHAT DOWNTIME ACTUALLY COSTS

When the till stops, the queue doesn’t pause. It leaves.

HOURS
A WEEK

A bad load-shedding week takes whole service periods with it. Dinner rush, gone dark — unless the till runs on its own battery-powered devices.

R0 RUNG
UP

A cloud-only POS waits for signal. While it spins, you’re writing orders on paper and re-keying them later — or not taking them at all.

THE QUEUE
WALKS

Customers give a stalled counter a few minutes, then try the place next door. The sale you lose in the dark rarely comes back the next day.

PAPER
CASH-UPS

Every outage worked around by hand becomes an evening of reconciling slips, floats and card machine totals that don’t agree.

The grid gives up mid-service. The till doesn’t notice: every sale keeps writing to the device, slips keep printing, the kitchen keeps its queue.

AT THE COUNTERTHREE COUNTERS. THREE BAD DAYS.

Illustrative scenarios — this is exactly what the software is built to do.

Stage 4 lands at 18:32 on a full Friday. Forty-seven sales ring up in the dark, the kitchen never breaks stride, and at 19:05 the whole evening syncs itself.

Cable theft takes the fibre out for two days. The till never blinks: barcode checkout keeps scanning, stock counts stay straight, and it all reconciles when the line is fixed.

Morning rush, dead Wi-Fi. A hundred and twenty flat whites go through tap-to-add without a single “sorry, the system’s down” — the queue never finds out.

QUESTIONS

Asked before switching. Honest answers, no marketing fluff.

Q/01What is SaleSwift?

SaleSwift is a South African studio that builds offline-first point-of-sale (POS) software. We make two products: Resty, a restaurant POS, and Retaily, a retail POS — both run on devices you already own and keep working with no internet and no power.

Q/02Does the POS work without internet or Wi-Fi?

Yes — offline is the default, not a fallback mode. Resty and Retaily are built local-first: every sale is written to the device immediately and syncs automatically when the connection returns, so you can keep trading through dead Wi-Fi, a fibre or ISP outage, or no signal at all.

Q/03Will it keep working during load-shedding or a power cut?

Yes. As long as the device is charged, the POS keeps selling through any outage — load-shedding, a municipal power cut, a generator switch-over or a network drop. It runs on phones, tablets and laptops that hold their own battery, so a dead substation never stops a sale.

Q/04What happens to my sales if the connection drops mid-sale?

Nothing is lost. Transactions are saved on the device in a local queue and reconciled automatically the moment you are back online — no duplicate charges, no re-keying and no gap in your reporting.

Q/05How much does a POS system cost in South Africa?

POS pricing in South Africa varies widely, and many providers also take a percentage of every transaction. SaleSwift is a flat R1,000 per device per month with every feature included — no per-feature upsells, no contracts and no cut of your sales. You can add or remove devices any month.

Q/06Do I need special hardware?

No. SaleSwift runs on the phones, tablets, laptops and PCs you already own, across iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. There is no proprietary terminal to buy or lease, so you are never locked into one vendor’s hardware.

Q/07How long does setup take?

About 15 minutes. Load your menu or product catalogue, hand out the devices and start selling the same day — there is nothing to install on special hardware and no on-site engineer required.

Q/08Is SaleSwift a card machine?

No — SaleSwift is POS software, not a card machine. It runs your sales, menu or catalogue, stock and reporting, and works alongside the card machine or payment provider you already use to take card payments.

Q/09What’s the difference between Resty and Retaily?

Resty is built for restaurants, cafes and bars — table service, kitchen tickets and cash-ups. Retaily is built for shops — fast barcode checkout, loyalty and multi-store stock. Both share the same offline-first foundation.
